Welcome to our Society. We have been serving children and their families since 1994 in Fort Vermilion, La Crete and Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement in Northwest Alberta. Our Admin office is located in Fort Vermilion on 4601-46 Street.
We are a registered charity and are funded by the Public Health Agency Canada, we are a member of the CAPC-CPNP Coalition in Alberta. CAPC stands for Community Action Program for Children and CPNP stands for Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. Our contract with PHAC is under CAPC.
Our Adult Foundational Learning Program is funded by Alberta Advanced Education, and we are a member of the Community Learning Network. We deliver adult foundational learning programs in Fort Vermilion and surroundings.
We deliver Head Start programs to children and parenting support to parents and caregivers. It is essential that children at a young age benefit from a fostering, supportive environment. In Head Start, children learn how to make friends, play together, and have an opportunity to meet their developmental needs. Children can be children in our programs: they play, make crafts, sing songs and have snack together with other children. Sometimes young children face challenges that can be met through Head Start: there can be speech delays, or developmental delays. Due to family circumstances children may be stressed which impedes their ability to learn, or there may not be many opportunities to play. Head Start can help families out. Through home visits and parent nights, our staff members assist parents in parenting, in addressing a child's needs and provide the family with information on the best start for their child. If there are circumstances where we cannot help a family out, we will refer to other agencies as we partner with other agencies in your community. We are not judgmental: we do not mind what you house looks like, all we want to do is help you out for the best development of your children. Home visits are an important element in supporting you in your parenting.
Our Head Start programs organize parent nights and parent meetings to help parents out and ensure they can do the best for their children that they can. If you have any questions, please contact the Head Start in your community. Contact information can be found elsewhere on this website.
