Fort Vermilion Head Start

The Fort Vermilion Head Start program has been open since 1994. is located on 5109-43rd Street in Fort Vermilion. The program operates from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and has two classes, a morning class and an afternoon class.

At 9:00 am the bus starts its round through the community to pick up the children. One staff member always travels on the bus, and we have our "own" bus driver. The bus comes back to the program at 9:15. From 9:15 – 11:45 the children are in the program, where they do circle time, craft, play and snack (or other activities, depending on the season).  At 11:30 the bus is ready to bring the children home. The afternoon class is from 12:15 – 2:345 and has a similar schedule to that of the morning class.

Snack is provided in both the morning class and the afternoon class. All snacks provided are in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide.  Sometimes parents are asked to bring snack to the program, these snacks too need to be in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide.

There are three staff members on site: A Program Coordinator, who is in charge of the program and also teaches in the program. Then the Program Assistant, who teaches in the program and assists the coordinator with all activities. Both Program Coordinator and Program Assistant are full-time employees. Then there is our Family Liaison Worker, who connects with the families and helps parents out with parenting and any questions they may have regarding their child. This is a part time position. Where applicable the Family Liaison Worker also helps out in the daily program.

The program follows the calendar of the Fort Vermilion School Division. When the School Division is closed, so is the program.
