Submitting an application for your child
Your child needs to be between the ages of 3.5 and 5 years old to be eligible for Head Start. We start receiving applications in September, and usually our classes start towards the end of September or in the beginning of October (this is different for every Head Start site) and run until the beginning of June. Submitting an application for your child does not automatically mean that your child has been accepted in Head Start, as the Government requires that children in our program meet certain standards: after you have submitted your complete and signed application form, staff will review it and inform you of their decision. Typically we do not accept children after the first week of January but if the classes are small, we may make an exception. Please contact us for more information if you want to enroll your child after the first week of January.

After you have completed the form, you can take it to the Head Start site in your community. The staff will accept your application form and go over the information you have provided. Please make sure you have completed every question in the application form and that you have signed the form, and that physical addresses of yourself and an emergency contact are provided. Staff will inform you if your child has been accepted. This process - between submitting the form and being informed of the decision, may take up to three weeks. If we have more than 30 applicants, a wait list will be created. Every year families move in and out of the area, so there is a good chance that at some point in time your child can be accepted in Head Start, should your child be on the wait list. However, we can not guarantee your child a spot in Head Start if he or she is on the wait list.
